Concordia Global Seminars
We know it's never too late to study a language, brush up on skills you've forgotten or travel to a new destination. Learning about the languages and cultures of the world is a life-long interest for many people -- which is why adult international education is flourishing at Concordia.
You can focus on personal interest in a language, develop skills that help you professionally or finally take advantage of that travel seminar to a destination you've always dreamed about visiting. Our new Concordia Global Seminars for adults provides alumni and friends options to extend global citizenship skills and learn about new places, people and languages.
Designed by emeritus and current Concordia faculty and Language Village program leaders, these adult programs fit into one of four focused categories:
Language Immersion
Short-term programs at the Language Villages in Minnesota or travel abroad programs tailored to language acquisition. Includes options with Elderhostel and the French Voyageur Wilderness Program.
Cultural Workshops (Norwegian)
Non-immersion programs which currently offer instruction in two Norwegian-based interests: rosemaling and Norwegian/American genealogy research. Expert instructors lead a series of seminars located at the Language Villages near Bemidji, Minnesota.
Professional Development
Intensive immersion language program for health-care professionals in a peaceful, North Woods of Minnesota setting. Grouped according to language ability, participants will learn to understand better and communicate more effectively with their Spanish-speaking patients. Please see our section for language educators to learn more about options tailored specifically for teachers.
International Travel
Travel abroad with college professors or Language Village language and culture experts on programs that combine learning and camaraderie with other Concordia alums, parents and friends.
Discovery Seminars are adult versions of Concordia's popular May Seminars and Exploration Seminars for co-eds featuring a cultural focus. You get all of the fun, insider tours and outstanding experts without any of the homework!
Voluntours provide an opportunity for participants to visit another country while volunteering on a service-learning project. Global Language Villages are three week programs combining travel with teaching English.
